» A study Walk around Kazimierz and Podgorze Districts

On the 10th of June 2013 students of the 2nd grade participated in the study walk around Kazimierz and Podgórze districts. Such walk constituted a conclusion of the module dedicated to inter-groups' relations led by the PhD candidate Katarzyna Suszkiewicz from the university class of intercultural competence in the first quarter of 2013.

During the realization of this module youth had a task to prepare presentations on the chosen Jewish heritage objects (synagogues, ritual baths, ritual abattoirs) around Kazimierz and other places connected with the former ghetto in Podgórze. Students consulted their materials from which they gained information from the leading person or their history teachers at high school.

During the walk students evaluated one another taking into consideration not only the content of the presentation but also the form.

» A Visit in the American Information Resource Center

Every year, within the classes of intercultural competence students participate in a meeting organized by the American Information Resource Center in Krakow.

The aims of the visit:

  • To familiarize students with the activities of the Resource Centre which support exploration of American culture and society

A meeting with the General Consul:

Guidelines:

  • Students learn about American traditions and culture and  familiarize themselves with the American educational system
  • Students gain information on how to use the resources database, library and the video collection that are available in the Resource Center
  • Students have a possibility to speak English during the conversation with the General Consul as well as to receive answers on the subjects that are interesting to them

The visit in the Resource Center and intercultural competence teaching:

The visit to the American Information Resource Center was a perfect opportunity to familiarize students with American culture. Students acquire basic information on the American society which is diverse in regards to culture and ethnicity. What is more, they have an opportunity to broaden their knowledge on the subject by exploiting the resources such as books and documentary movie collections on the American literature or American movies provided in the American Information Resource Center. For all those who are interested, the American Center provides free of charge an electronic subscription to the monthly magazine: "Zoom in on America" which explores various topics connected with culture, traditions and the daily life of Americans. This way, the youth not only develops their interests but have a possibility to prepare themselves to entering higher education.

In those meetings took part:
